Creating Healthy Work Environments: Design Strategies for Mental and Physical well-being- Office Environment Design to Reduce Burnout and Improve Productivity

Burnout, defined by emotional exhaustion, lack of control, and insufficient managerial support, is increasingly common in healthcare, education, and office work, with a McKinsey survey reporting one in four employees worldwide experiencing it. While workload is often blamed, this study highlights the crucial role of physical office environments in either worsening or alleviating burnout. Poorly designed offices—lacking proper lighting, privacy, and natural elements—intensify stress and fatigue. In contrast, thoughtful spaces with biophilic elements, ergonomic furniture, and effective partitions enhance well-being and productivity.
